
Saint George is the Patron Saint of Catalonia , Saint George´s Day is known in Catalan language as the “Diada of San Jordi”, its origins date from the 15th century when it was celebrated St Valentine's Day in Barcelona.
The legend tells that Saint George killed a dragoon wich imprisioned a princess and that from the blood of the beast sprouted a red rose. The tradition indicates that on this day the men give as a present a rose to the women and the women a book to the men because there is a concurrence of World Book Day and the Festival of Saint George.
